The Demographics of Guatemala are diverse; the population, 17,263,239 strong, (2018 estimate) primarily comprises Mestizos, Amerindians, and people of European descent. The population is divided almost evenly between rural and urban areas. About 65% of the population speak Spanish, with nearly all the rest speaking Amerindian languages (there are 23 officially recognized Amerindian languages).
